General FAQs
-
You don't need a diagnosis, a crisis, or a clear reason to start. If something feels off, if you're stuck in a pattern, if you're carrying more than you can manage on your own, or if you just want to understand yourself better, those are all good reasons. The free 15-minute consultation is a low-pressure way to find out if working together feels like the right fit.
-
Your first session is an opportunity to slow down, connect, and begin exploring what brings you to therapy. We will talk through what you are currently facing, the changes you hope to experience, and what you want to achieve in our work together. Your therapist will guide the conversation with thoughtful, paced questions, never in an overwhelming or rapid-fire way, while using your intake paperwork to better understand your history. Throughout this initial 60-minute session, you are always welcome to share what feels most important to you and to ask any questions you have along the way.
-
We offer standing, recurring appointment times on either a weekly or bi-weekly basis, ensuring you always have a dedicated spot reserved just for you.
Because consistency builds trust, creates momentum, and supports the most meaningful progress, we highly recommend committing to weekly sessions for at least the first six weeks.
If a weekly opening is not immediately available, we can begin with bi-weekly sessions and continuously evaluate the schedule together. Throughout your care, our approach remains completely collaborative and tailored to your life.
As we build a solid foundation and work through the initial challenges that brought you to therapy, we will seamlessly adjust your session frequency over time, whether that means continuing weekly or eventually transitioning to a bi-weekly or monthly rhythm.
-
There is no one-size-fits-all timeline for healing. Therapy can serve as a short-term tool for focused growth or a long-term, ongoing space for reflection, support, and maintenance. Some clients meet their specific goals in just a few months, while others choose to continue for years; the process is entirely shaped around what feels most helpful and meaningful to you.
There are no contracts or commitments beyond your next session. Our overarching goal is to support you for as long as therapy aligns with your needs, and we will regularly check in to collaboratively discuss your progress and evaluate whether it feels like the right time to wrap up. When you are ready to conclude your care, we recommend a final closing session to reflect on your hard work and discuss your next steps, though this remains completely your choice. Should your life shifts or stress levels increase down the road, you are always welcome to pause therapy and return whenever you need to reconnect.
-
No, we do not offer in-person sessions.
Our practice is 100% telehealth, allowing us to provide high-quality, secure online therapy to clients wherever they are throughout the state of California. This model offers maximum flexibility and convenience, letting you join your sessions from the comfort and privacy of your own space. All online appointments are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform to ensure your absolute privacy.
-
We meet over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You join from wherever you are — home, office, your car, anywhere private and quiet where you have a stable internet connection. Sessions are 60 minutes, one-on-one with your therapist. Other than the camera, it works the same as in-person therapy.
-
Confidentiality is one of the most essential parts of the therapeutic relationship, and everything we discuss in session is protected by strict privacy laws. You remain in control of your story; nothing you share is disclosed to anyone, including other healthcare providers, without your written permission. To ensure your digital privacy, we also use a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform for all video sessions. Before we begin, you will receive a written informed consent form that outlines exactly how your privacy is protected.
However, there are a few rare, legal and ethical exceptions where therapists are legally required to break confidentiality to ensure safety:
Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or vulnerable adult.
Imminent risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else.
If situations like these ever arise, your therapist will approach them with care, honesty, and transparency. Our priority is always to support your safety and well-being while honoring your autonomy and dignity as much as possible.
Therapy for Teens
-
Most teens are skeptical at first, that's totally normal. What helps is having a therapist who doesn't try too hard to be relatable or get them to "open up" on day one.
Our therapists work with teens by being real, honest, and respectful of where they are. The first few sessions are about building trust, not pulling answers out of them. Most teens come around once they realize their therapist isn't trying to fix them or report back on them.
-
Common situation, and it doesn't have to be a deal-breaker. A lot of teens will agree to "just try one session" if they know they aren't being forced into anything ongoing.
We can also do a brief free consultation with you (the parent) first to talk through the situation and decide if therapy is the right next step. Forcing a reluctant teen into ongoing therapy rarely works, but a low-pressure first conversation often does.
-
We meet over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Your teen joins from wherever they are: bedroom, parked car, anywhere private and quiet with a stable internet connection.
Sessions are 60 minutes, one-on-one with their therapist. Many teens actually prefer online therapy to in-person, there's no waiting room, no commute, and they get to be in their own space.
-
For the most part, yes. California law gives minors ages 12 and older certain rights to confidential mental health services, and we honor those rights.
We'll explain exactly how confidentiality works at intake, including the limits (such as imminent danger to your teen or others, or reports of abuse). The point of confidentiality is to give your teen a real space to be honest, which is what makes therapy actually work.
-
We honor your teen's privacy and your involvement at the same time. At intake, we'll walk through exactly what gets shared, what stays between your teen and the therapist, and how.
Generally, we keep session content confidential to your teen so they can speak freely, but we'll always let you know if there are safety concerns, if your teen is doing something you need to be aware of, or if there are themes important for you to know.
For younger teens or specific situations, we may include you in periodic sessions when it serves the work.
-
Yes. Our therapists work with neurodivergent teens and adapt the work to your teen's specific needs, communication style, and processing patterns. We're not autism specialists, but we work effectively with neurodivergent teens whose primary therapy needs are anxiety, depression, identity, relationships, or trauma.
Relationship Therapy
-
It depends on what brought you in. Some couples need a few months to work through a specific issue, a communication pattern, a recent conflict, a transition. Others stay longer to address deeper layers like trust repair, intimacy, or long-standing dynamics.
We'll set clear goals early on and check in regularly about whether the work is doing what you want it to. We don't keep people in therapy longer than necessary.
-
Yes, to all of it. We work with dating couples, engaged couples, married couples, couples in ethical open or polyamorous relationships, 2SLGBTQIA+ couples, blended families, long-distance partners, and couples in any stage or structure that's meaningful to you.
The work is the same: helping you understand each other and build something that holds up.
-
Yes. We also work with adult siblings repairing rifts, parents and their adult children navigating distance or estrangement, and other adult family configurations. The therapeutic approach borrows from couples work, recognizing patterns, communicating without escalation, building emotional safety, adapted to your specific relationship.
-
This is more common than you might think. You can still benefit from individual work focused on the relationship, even if your partner isn't ready. Sometimes that work shifts the dynamic enough that your partner becomes curious. Sometimes it gives you clarity about what you want next. Either way, you don't have to wait for someone else to be ready before you start.
-
Not necessarily. While couples therapy is a shared process, there are times when one of you might attend a session alone. For instance, an individual session can be incredibly helpful if we are focusing on a personal challenge that is impacting the relationship, or if one partner needs dedicated space to process something before bringing it into the joint work.
We will always communicate openly and collaborate as we go to decide what rhythm is most helpful for your relationship.
-
Therapy and premarital work are not just for fixing a broken relationship; they are powerful forms of preventative care.
This collaborative process is about building communication skills, surfacing unsaid assumptions, and guiding you through structured conversations you might not think to have on your own.
Whether you are preparing for marriage, navigating a major life transition, or simply wanting to strengthen your bond, most couples are surprised by what comes up. This isn't because something is wrong, but because our assessments introduce unique questions you wouldn't naturally ask each other, allowing you to proactively align your futures and deepen your connection.

Yes. We are an in-network provider for the following insurance plans throughout California:
Aetna
Anthem Blue Cross (CA)
Blue Shield of California
Cigna
Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP)
Kaiser (SoCal)
Magellan (EAP)
Molina Healthcare
Santa Clara Family Health Plan (SCFHP)
Please note that while our practice accepts all of these insurance networks, individual clinicians are not paneled with every provider listed. We recommend reviewing our clinician profiles to confirm which plans your specific therapist accepts.
As a client, you are responsible for any copays, coinsurance, or deductibles outlined by your specific policy.
Additionally, if you choose to utilize insurance to cover your therapy, we are legally required to submit a clinical diagnosis to your insurance company for your services to be eligible for coverage.
-
You can still see us. We provide an out-of-network superbill on request, which you can submit to your insurance for partial reimbursement based on your out-of-network benefits.
-
We cannot guarantee that your insurance company will cover couples or family sessions. Following your initial diagnostic assessment, your therapist will determine whether your specific diagnosis and treatment plan meet the strict reimbursement criteria set by your insurance provider. If your insurance company denies coverage for these services, your therapist will transparently discuss our self-pay options and rates with you so you can choose how best to proceed with your care.
-
We accept all major credit cards, HSA/FSA cards, and a variety of widely used payment apps for your convenience. Session fees, co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles must be paid at the time of service.
-
Yes. We maintain a limited number of sliding scale and reduced-fee spots priced at $75 per session for clients with demonstrated financial need.
Because these spots are limited, please reach out to us directly before scheduling to discuss current availability.
-
As of 01/01/22, the No Surprises Act was implemented to prevent patients/clients from receiving unexpected medical bills. While the majority of this Act applies to emergency medical services and in-network hospitals that employ out-of-network providers, some information applies to all medical service providers.
The No Surprises Act requires that all providers supply a Good Faith Estimate of the cost of services to self-pay/uninsured clients or clients who elect not to use their health insurance plan for a desired service.
Insured clients can request a Good Faith Estimate, however the cost of psychotherapy will depend entirely on the client's specific insurance plan.
We accept most insurance plans.
Aetna • Anthem • Blue Shield of California • Cigna • Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP) • Kaiser • Magellan • Molina • Santa Clara Family Health Plan (SCFHP)
