What is Individual Therapy?
Individual therapy—sometimes called psychotherapy or counseling—is a one-on-one partnership between you and one of our therapists. It’s a confidential, supportive space to openly explore your challenges, emotions, and relationships. Together, we’ll identify the changes you want, process what’s weighing on you, and build practical ways to cope. Our experienced team is proud to offer online therapy that’s accessible, flexible, and tailored to you. Whether you’re facing stress, anxiety, trauma, or relationship struggles, we’re here to support you through secure, HIPAA-compliant video sessions—delivering the same compassionate care you’d get in person, from the comfort of wherever feels right to you.
What to Expect in Therapy?
Starting therapy can stir up a mix of feelings—nervousness, uncertainty, or even relief at having someone to turn to. We’ll ease in by getting to know you, building trust, and learning about your goals and what’s been tough lately. As we go, we’ll guide you through exploring different corners of your life, always at a pace that feels right for you—especially with the heavy stuff. We’ll keep it real and supportive, working through any strong emotions together. Along the way, we’ll check in on how you’re doing, tweak goals as needed, and give you the freedom to join sessions from home or wherever you’re most at ease.
Online Therapy.
Effectiveness of Online Therapy
Numerous studies affirm the effectiveness of online therapy. A recent study in the Journal of Anxiety Disorders shows that online Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is as impactful as face-to-face CBT.
Another study in the World Journal of Psychiatry found that:
Online therapy has the same positive outcomes as face-to-face therapy
Overall, patients receiving online counseling report being satisfied with their experiences. Many people state that online therapy is easy to use and means they don’t have to travel to appointments
Mental health assessments made using online therapy are just as reliable as assessments made during face-to-face therapy
This 2-Minute Medicine article and this Medical Dialogues article also point to a recent study by McGowan et al, (2021), which concludes that EMDR therapy is not only a viable option for in-person therapy but resulted in significant improvements in mental health.
Disadvantages:
While online therapy offers numerous benefits, it may not be suitable for everyone. For acute mental health issues or specific therapy techniques, alternative approaches may be more effective. If you have any questions about online mental health support or if it's suitable for you, reach out to us. We're here to help guide you towards the right support for your unique circumstances.
How to Prepare for an
Online Therapy Appointment
Online Therapy can seem intimidating, especially if you’ve never done it before. But many patients find that they’re more relaxed in their home environment and have an easier time opening up about mental health challenges than in a traditional office setting. We do our best to make sure that you’re comfortable during your virtual visit, but there are a few things that you can do to prepare for your appointment and get the most out of your telemental health experience.
For your appointment, you will need a smartphone, computer, tablet or other device that can access the internet and open a web browser.
Ensure that your audio and video are working and log in to the session.
Find a quiet location where you won’t be disturbed.
Make sure your space is free of distractions and located somewhere that you’ll feel comfortable discussing your mental health.
Prepare your thoughts and write down a list of questions, symptoms or other talking points you want to cover during your appointment.
Considering using earbuds or headphones to keep your appointment private.
Your mental health is our top priority, so we’ve been specially trained in providing telehealth services to ensure that you receive the highest quality of care throughout your sessions. Before your first appointment, we are ready to answer any questions you may have about your services, the telehealth process, and how it works, so you'll feel comfortable and prepared for your virtual visit.
